Grass and forage
Openfield is a major supplier and processor of grass seed mixtures for silage and grazing leys.
We also provide a wide range of maize varieties to suit specific maturity needs.
In addition, we supply a package of game cover and conservation mixes and roots and fodder crop varieties, as well as amenity turf grass seed mixes.
Seed Quality
Our success is based on the supply of top quality seed, which has purity and germination standards well above the EC minimum.
Germination standards:
- EC 80%
- HVS 80%
- Openfield 92%
Purity standards:
- EC 96%
- HVS 98%
- Openfield 99%
Seed Treatment
The Openfield forage range is exclusively treated with Integral, which consists of naturally occurring bacteria that colonise the fine root hairs of the developing seedlings. These bacteria encourage faster root development, warding off harmful micro-organisms that can prevent growth.
The use of Integral treated seed has been shown to increase root and shoot weight giving:
- Between 53% and 85% greater root weight
- Healthier plants
- Improved early growth
- Reduced weed ingress
- Better nutrient uptake
