We look after the British wheat supply for Warburtons, and supply over 150,000 tonnes each year into a nationwide milling network, drawn from a dedicated group of Openfield members.
The relationship between Openfield and Warburtons is approaching its 20th anniversary. And with a contract cycle of five years, the commitment in the chain is long-standing and built on a relationship of trust and collaboration. In years when the crop has underperformed due to weather (and others have switched to overseas grain), Warburtons, Openfield and the members have worked together to maintain the integrity of the chain and to deliver the best possible product.
The combined focus of Warburtons, Openfield and the members is on producing the finest quality wheat to support Warburtons in their ambition to make the best quality bread in Britain. This is backed by expert agricultural input to influence quality from seed to grain and on to the flour itself.
Families are at the heart of the Warburtons business, and the company’s values, focus and principles extend to their growers – Openfield members – in a desire to support resilient, sustainable, family farms in Britain.
Openfield facilitates this by ensuring the contracts are placed with likeminded farm businesses that genuinely wish to contribute to and foster this vision.
